Multi-media impressionist Rea Nagel and fine art photographer Patrick Ramsey are presenting "Contemplation: Art for Thought" at the Topanga Canyon Gallery March 1-19. The work is an invitation for reflection about vision, meaning and the world around us. Both artists have a long history of engagement in social and political movements which informs their perspective.

StThe Center for Photographic Arts has selected Patrick's image "Indigo Hands" for the online gallery of their 2016 International Juried Exhibition. "Indigo Hands" is one of only 90 images selected to show at the Carmel gallery or on line.
The story behind the photo:
"My young tour guide in the mountains of Northern Vietnam took me to her own village after a few days walking together. She introduced me to friends who dyed and wove the cloth from which the villagers’ clothes were made. This dyer did not cover her face from shyness, but because I asked her to let me take a picture of her hands. They carry with them the mark of her skill and contribution to her community. "
The Sacramento Arts Festival was held for the 19th year the first weekend of November. There were 200 exhibitors, including only 20 Fine Artists. Patrick exhibited over 30 images for about 10,000 attendees. The event was held at the Sacramento Convention Center, in the middle of downtown.
Patrick's image, "Supplication" was included in the Brand 44 Fine Art Exhibition in Glendale, California. Patrick was chosen as one of 101 artists out of over 800 applicants. Judge Laddie John Dill, recipitent of 2 National Endowment of the Arts Grants and a Guggenheim fellowship, said of the image; "This image displays a dynamic sculptural quality which projects it’s strong emotions.” See pictures of the event below.
We are excited to announce that an article about Patrick has been featured in the Topanga Messanger newspaper. He was interviewed about his perspective on his work.
“What I’m trying to convey more than anything else is emotion. When you look at my image, I want you to feel some emotion stirred in you. If not what I felt, some emotion that connects you to humanity. It’s an opportunity to see the commonality in all of us.”
One of the images appearing in the article, "Splash", was also selected for the Eclectic Exhibit at the D'Art Center in Norfolk Va.
Summer in Chicago! Nobody could have enjoyed it more than these children playing in the Millennium Park fountain. It was exactly the same scene I experienced in my childhood, opening the neighborhood fire hydrant. Some things, happily, don’t ever change.
